How Many Magento Websites Are In The E-Commerce Market In 2021?

Sometimes we will come across some questions like this: How many magento website platforms are used by the e-commerce market?

The answer is indeed not easy to come up with because we need data to come up with this answer in a way that is both easy and difficult.

And in this article SmartOSC will try to give you some sense of the general number of Magento e-commerce sites in this post.

Magento Website Data Overview

For this article we will use data from BuiltWith and Datanyze. We will also use data from W3Tech solely to understand trends in the use of E-Commerce platforms.

All data for this blog post was obtained as of April 22, 2020.

We can see that there are about 170,000 magento websites built worldwide, about 1.4% of all websites (not just e-commerce sites).

Similar data can be found in W3Tech where we can see Magento holds about 1.4% across all CMS.

When looking at the data of e-commerce websites, you can see that Magento accounts for about 3% of the entire market.

But if we look at the data from Datanyze, it is easy to see that there is a similarity and a difference.

The similarity lies in the market share between the e-commerce platforms and the difference lies in the number of websites using the Magento platform.

Number of Magento websites used

Since the data ranges from 1,000,000, 100,000, 10,000 and 1,000 in different websites, we will summarize the number of magento websites in the data table below:

For data between 1,000,000 and 1,000 is in the case of Datanyze using Alexa data.

So what can we conclude from these data?

Where in the world are there between 45,000 and 170,000 websites using Magento?

All of this depends on the data you are looking at but we can all agree that Magento holds about 3% of the worldwide e-commerce market.

If we merge the number of Magento 1 and Magento 2 websites, we will have about 147,000 websites on Adobe platform and this is pretty close to the data from BuiltWith

We will compare all data coming from different websites (data from mid-April 2020)

And now compare these two data on the statistics table.

As we can see there has been a drop of almost 12% to 34% in the number of magento websites in the e-commerce market.

If we also look at the data from Sansec, we can also see that this global trend is going down, Websites using (Magento 1) have lost 25000 websites in the last three months and only about 1500 another site using Magento 2. In total we lost 23500 websites using Magento.
